Financial Times – DEI Video

Sound Design/Mix

Working with FT Studio was a huge honour, and such a pleasure. I had a lot of fun bringing to life the beautiful animations for this internal explainer style video with a subtle and quirky sound design, and sound mixing the final animation for them.

Extraordinary Women – TV Series

Sound Design

I had the pleasure of working on the sound design for this international distributed series, recreating the sound for archived footage, where the audio was either non existent or unusable.

Extraordinary Women was a 13 episode mini series that i had the pleasure of working on as part of the sound team at Rapid Pictures. Due to the poor quality of the audio on the majority of the archived footage, it was imperitive to rebuild the audio using approriate and accurate sound effects. I am credited as Sound designer for several episodes.

Blackline Creative

Sonic Branding

This project with London based strategic brand agency, Blackline Creative, was truly a pleasure. Not only are the team world class in their field, but they’re a lovely bunch to boot.

The brief was to draw inspiration from the classic “Fool’s Gold” by The Stone Roses, no simple task, eh?

Embracing the sampled rhythms emblematic of 90s rave music, this logo takes a dynamic journey through the rhythmic elements of that era, and draws inspiration from the iconic guitar tone and riff.

At the heart of the narrative is a drum break sequence reminiscent of the legendary ‘Amen Break,’ serving as the pulsating backbone that propels the logo forward. Filters and automation are applied to sculpt the sound over time, the stereo field progresses from mono to full stereo, contributing to a motion led and immersive auditory experience.

A true sonic journey distilled in only 7 seconds. I also supplied them with a couple of short form arrangements of the theme and some separate sonic elements to incorporate in their digital media.

Pagu Studio – Gone Crabbin’

Sound Design

A really fun collab with Bristol based Pagu Studio. Inspired by the South West Coast and the craggy, Cornish coastline Pagu created this beautiful series. Using a bunch of audio samples which I recorded on location in Cornwall, I created these soundscapes to bring their beautiful illustrations to life.

BrandEye

Sound Design/VO

A huge project working with BrandEye to solidify their sonic identity for their new platform, it’s always such fun to start with nothing and conceptualise the sonic world the animation sits in.

After creating their sonic logo, I used all the elements within that to inform the tone for the video, sprinkling the sonic elements throughout to create a holistic and grounded sonic world.

A favourite part was the character voices and emotions, which i think brought life (and some fun) to the quirky lil guys.

Animation and illustration by the fantastic and extremely talented Pagu Studio , the full project can be found on their site, along with their other work.

VO by the wonderful Mollie Adler, such a professional, and a joy to record, edit and produce.

Glimma – Brandeye

Sonic Branding

Glimma needed a friendly, approachable and memorable sonic logo for their BrandEye platform, and i think this nailed it.

When working with endless possibilities, it’s a good idea to set creative boundaries, in this case it was in the form of musical notes, using the G (in truth it’s G#, you know… for harmony) from Glimma and the B and E from BrandEye. Subtle, simple, but effective.

Arpeggiating these notes and complimenting them with harmony from a bass, creates a tonal sense of positive forward momentum. For instrumentation, we chose the Marimba as our inspiration – a warm, cheerful, instrument that’s deeply rooted, sonically, in modern tech branding. The instrument is played by a mallet hitting a tuned wooden block, this organic nature sits wholly within the idea of BrandEye, due to the largely human nature of the brand. By combining the original sound of the marimba with a synthesized bell-like tone and complex but unobtrusive effects processing, we were able to give the sound logo a modern edge while retaining a warm and friendly character.

To imbue motion and pace, we added sweeps and hits and automated panning in the stereo field. This creates a sense of movement and depth, making the sound logo feel dynamic and engaging, ending with a satisfying resolve helped along by a pad riser for the final crescendo.

Belle Mellor

Sound Design

Belle was gracious enough to let me collab with her on some of her weird and wonderful illustrated GIFs, hoping that I could add a new dimension into the wonderful worlds she creates, with some equally weird and wonderful sounds.

Be sure to check out her work here.
